Not only have they created a new Pokémon Type in the form of Nuclear Type. One thing that cannot be overstated is the impressive amount of Pokémon that this game has created to fit its theme. Its’s so good and it hits a lot harder than many other Pokémon. During the story’s events, there is a larger threat at play in the form of a heavily irradiated man-made Pokémon that looms over the region, waiting to destroy it. The story also lightly addresses other themes such as loss and grief through the protagonist’s mother passing away due to the nuclear plant’s meltdown and fathers subsequent reclusion. Following your choice of three available heroes, you travel through this world and interact with many different characters and Pokémon that are native to this land. The story takes place after a nuclear reactor meltdown causes a great deal of Pokémon to become irradiated which changes their forms and makes them more aggressive, we’ll get into that a bit more in the third point. This comes through in the theme of nuclear power, a bit like Godzilla. I was really impressed by the titles desire to create something interesting and fantastical but still grounded in issues that we face through the aggression of the west. I’m going to give it to you straight this game has a brilliant story to it. They also brought in mega evolution, mystery gifts and multiple save files. (Never thought the power of friendship would have any actual bearing but here we are.) It brings it all the stuff we love, including but not limited to 8 gyms, 13 towns, 6 optional side quests, GTS, wonder trade and virtual trainer. There are a bunch of really cool features that have mechanical importance, like friendship.
